Alfred d’Souza
For a long time it had seemed to me that life was about to begin – real life. But there was always some obstacle in the way, something to be got through first, some unfinished business, time still to be served, a debt to be paid. Then life would begin. At last it dawned on me that these obstacles were my life.
Mary Oliver - When death comes
When death comes
like the hungry bear in Autumn;
When death comes and takes all the bright coins from his purse
to buy me, and snaps the purse shut,
When death comes
like the measel-pox
when death comes
like an iceberg between the shoulder blades.

I want to step through the door full of curiosity wondering
what is it going to be like, that cottage of disaster?

and therefore I look upon everything
as a brotherhood and a sisterhood,
and I look upon time as no more than an idea,
and I consider eternity as another possibility.

and I think of each life as a flower, as common
as a field daisy, and as singular.
and each name a comfortable music in my mouth,
tending, as all music does, toward silence,
and each body a lion of courage, and something
precious to the earth.

When it’s over, I want to say all my life
I was a bride married to amazement
I was the bridegroom, taking the world in my arms.

When it’s over, I want to say: all my life
if I have made of my life something particular, and real.
I don’t want to find myself sighing and frightened
or full of argument

I don’t want to end up simply having visited this world.
Good Grief

Loss is an unavoidable theme of human life, not an occasional event. We all experience grief – children leaving, jobs end, loved ones die, dreams fail – the list is endless. And the hard truth is that the losses we face in our living can be much harder to carry than death. Skill-full spirituality focuses on re-creation which results from reflecting on the past with courage and lifting insights for future living.

The Good Grief course offers the opportunity to learn about grief, mourn losses, befriend death and celebrate life. Be empowered to live as a fuller, free-er being in a world where pain and loss are unavoidable.

I am a sensitive facilitator with 19 years experience of grief counselling. Having run many courses similar to this one, I continue to be inspired by the courage of people who deal with loss creatively.
Good Grief!
